Helga's Folly

Helga's Folly is a red mansion in Kandy featuring dark murals, historical paintings, and antique furnishings spread across sixteen rooms. The spaces are filled with varied decorations that create a distinctive and personal collection throughout the property.

The building was constructed in the 1930s and later converted into a hotel by Helga de Silva Blow Perera after inheriting it from her parents. The transformation of a private residence into a guest house marked a significant chapter in the structure's past.

The rooms display personal photographs and objects that tell stories connected to Sri Lankan life and the owner's family journey. Visitors encounter these collections as they move through the different spaces.

The hotel sits on a hillside above the Golden Temple with convenient access from the city center. It offers a cold swimming pool, outdoor dining and sitting areas, air-conditioned rooms with balconies, and free parking on the grounds.

The property holds a collection of taxidermy specimens displayed throughout the rooms as part of the owner's personal assembly. Wild monkeys regularly visit the grounds and roam the areas surrounded by dense jungle vegetation.
