The museum opened on December 27, 2014, marking the 150th anniversary of the first train journey from Colombo to Ambepussa carrying the Duke of Brabant.
The museum exhibits showcase the transformation of rail transportation in Sri Lanka, from steam engines to modern locomotives, reflecting national technological progress.
The museum operates daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with admission fees of 500 LKR for international visitors and 50 LKR for local adults.
Visitors can explore a model railway display featuring miniature versions of Sri Lankan railway landmarks, including the renowned Nine Arch Bridge.
