Circuit International Automobile Moulay El Hassan, motorsport track in Morocco
Circuit International Automobile Moulay El Hassan is a street racing course that runs through Marrakesh for international motor racing events. The track spans about 3 kilometers with sharp turns, straightaways, and tight hairpin curves along Boulevard Mohammed and Route de l'Ourika in the Agdal district.
The track opened in 2009 as a milestone for international motorsport in Morocco. The original design by D3 Motorsport was much longer, but was halved in 2015 and redesigned by Hermann Tilke to create a more compact and technically demanding course for contemporary racing series.
The circuit takes its name from a Moroccan ruler, connecting the city to world motorsport events. On race days, the streets become a gathering place where local residents and visitors experience the intensity together, with engine noise amplifying the energy that fills the surrounding neighborhoods.
The track is located south of the city along Route de l'Ourika and only about 5 kilometers from Marrakesh-Menara Airport, making arrival convenient. Visitors should arrive early on race days, as streets close and large crowds gather in the area.
A notable incident occurred in 2010 when a driver miscalculated braking into a chicane, sending his car airborne to land on another vehicle, yet miraculously without serious injury. This event illustrates how technically demanding and unpredictable this street circuit remains even for seasoned racing professionals.
