Bago

Bago is a city in Bago Region, Myanmar, located in a flat area surrounded by extensive rice paddies and agricultural land. The cityscape features religious structures and traditional buildings spread across different neighborhoods and districts.

The city served as a kingdom's capital during the 14th to 16th centuries, experiencing wealth and importance as a trade hub during that period. Later political changes shifted the center of power elsewhere, though the city maintained its cultural role.

According to local legend, two princes founded the settlement after spotting a pair of sacred birds at a large lake's edge, a detail still referenced in local stories and artwork today. The birds themselves hold special significance in the region's spiritual traditions.
