Uran-Togoo Tulga Uul Natural Monument, Extinct volcanic formation in Bulgan Province, Mongolia.
Uran-Togoo Tulga Uul is an extinct volcanic formation in Bulgan Province with a circular crater featuring a small lake at its center. The area encompasses multiple peaks with varied landscapes, including forests and grasslands.
The formation received protected status in 1995, encompassing 5,800 hectares that include four distinct mountain massifs. This protection preserved one of Mongolia's most notable volcanic systems.
The mountain names come from traditional Mongolian cooking vessels: Tulga refers to a three-legged cooking support and Jalavch means small pot.
The monument is accessible via a paved road leading to a parking area, with hiking trails circling the rim and descending into the crater. The best time to visit is during months with stable weather when trails are dry and easily walkable.
The soil is so fertile that it supports larch forests, birch woodlands, and grasslands where numerous animal species thrive. This biological richness makes it an important refuge for local wildlife.
