Wied Musa Battery

Wied Musa Battery is a coastal fortification in Mellieħa featuring a semi-circular gun platform with four firing positions. A rectangular blockhouse with an outer defensive work completes the structure.

The Knights of Malta constructed this coastal battery in the early 1700s as part of their island defense strategy. It became one of several fortifications designed to protect the shores from invasion.

This fortification served as a defensive point for the local community, protecting merchant ships and coastal settlements from attacks. It represents how people of the era secured their waters and livelihoods against threats from the sea.

The site sits on the coast surrounded by open farmland, making it easily accessible from nearby areas. The location is exposed to sun and wind, so bring protection if visiting on a warm day.

The four cannons stationed here received their ammunition from a separate fortified tower located elsewhere on the coast. This connection shows how military planners linked different defenses across the island.
