Isopu Tower, Defensive watchtower in Nadur, Malta
The square limestone tower stands on cliffs between San Blas and Daħlet Qorrot, featuring thick walls that slope inward and rise 120 meters above sea level.
Built in 1667 under Grandmaster Nicolas Cotoner, the Università of Gozo funded this coastal defense structure and provided its garrison with artillery from the Order of Saint John.
Four escutcheons at the entrance display coats of arms representing the Order, Gozo Università, Grandmaster Cotoner, and the Governor of Gozo.
Visitors can explore the tower on the first, second, and third Sunday mornings of each month through guided tours organized by Din l-Art Helwa volunteers.
The tower fired upon approaching French fleet vessels in 1798, marking the last military action by a Gozitan coastal watchtower.
