Gashaka Gumti National Park, National park in eastern Taraba and Adamawa, Nigeria
The park spans 6,402 square kilometers, featuring savannah grasslands in the north and mountainous terrain with deep valleys in the south.
Following concerns about excessive hunting in 1966, the Government of Northern Nigeria initiated a land systems survey to protect the Taraba River watersheds.
The Nigerian Conservation Foundation collaborates with local communities and traditional leaders to preserve the natural resources within the park boundaries.
The park houses the Hippo Pool, German Forte site, and GGNP Museum, offering visitors opportunities to observe diverse wildlife and natural specimens.
The protected area contains Chappal Waddi, rising to 2,419 meters, making it the highest mountain peak in Nigeria.
