Rheden

Rheden is a municipality in eastern Gelderland that spans 84 square kilometers and includes seven villages, among them Velp, Dieren, and De Steeg situated along the IJssel River. The communities are linked by waterways and roads, creating a patchwork of village centers and open land throughout the territory.

Written records first mention Rheden in 960, establishing its roots in medieval times. The modern municipality took shape in 1818 when local administrative districts merged into a single entity.

The Gazelle bicycle factory in Dieren began production in 1892 and remains an active manufacturer in the area. Visitors can observe that this company has maintained continuous production over generations, creating thousands of bikes annually in the same community.
