Rozendaalsche veld, Nature area and heath in Rozendaal and Rheden, Netherlands
Rozendaalsche veld is a nature area spanning about 540 hectares with sandy plains, rolling hills, and heathland scattered across Rozendaal and Rheden. The landscape includes the elevated terrain of Veluwe, creating varied topography throughout the site.
The site was transferred from local management organizations to Rheden municipality in 1921. A memorial stone bench along Pinkenbergseweg marks this transition and displays gunshot marks from 1944.
The area maintains strong connections to local heritage through the continued influence of traditional land management organizations dating back many generations.
Free parking is available at Kluizenaarsweg, and the area features designated off-leash zones for dogs marked with green posts throughout the space. Walking paths allow visitors to explore the landscape at a relaxed pace.
In 1983 a discovery of 19 buried weapon cases near the fire tower revealed an underground arms depot from the Cold War era. The hidden cache revealed little-known aspects of the area's modern history.
