Kirana Hills, Mountain range in Sargodha District, Pakistan
Kirana Hills is a mountain range in Sargodha District composed of rocky peaks reaching around 1,050 feet (320 meters) above the surrounding plains. The formation stretches across a significant area with varied elevation and a rough, barren character.
British geologists conducted the first comprehensive studies of these hills in 1913, mapping their geological composition and rock formations. The area later gained strategic military importance when a radar installation was added.
The hills take their name from a small village whose residents later moved to the growing towns of Rabwah and Sargodha. This local connection remains part of how people remember and speak about the place.
The best time to visit is during winter when temperatures are more comfortable for outdoor walking and exploration. The rocky terrain and steep slopes require sturdy footwear and careful footing when moving across the hills.
In 1970, the Pakistan Air Force built a radar station atop the hills, transforming the natural landscape into a military installation. This facility remains a notable part of the modern geography.
