Islamia University of Bahawalpur, public university in Punjab, Pakistan
Islamia University of Bahawalpur is a public university in Bahawalpur, Pakistan, with faculties covering arts, sciences, and engineering. The main campus sits in the city center and groups teaching buildings, laboratories, a central library, and sports facilities across its grounds.
The institution was founded in 1925 as Jamia Abbasia, a center for Islamic studies inspired by Al-Azhar University in Cairo. It was renamed in 1963 and gained the status of a full university in 1975.
Students from across Pakistan gather here, giving the campus a noticeably mixed regional character. The grounds around the central mosque and the main library serve as natural meeting points where daily life on campus unfolds.
The main campus is in central Bahawalpur and easy to reach on foot from most parts of the city. Outside of exam periods, visitors can walk freely around the grounds during the day, and signs help with finding the main buildings.
The campus is close to Uch Sharif, a medieval city that was once one of the most active centers of Islamic scholarship in South Asia. This proximity shaped the religious and academic character of the institution from its earliest days.
