Trango Glacier, Mountain glacier in Baltoro Muztagh range, Pakistan.
Trango Glacier is a mountain glacier in the Baltoro Muztagh range that flows along the western flank of the Trango Towers. It connects seamlessly with the larger Baltoro Glacier system that dominates this high-altitude region.
The glacier was first systematically mapped in 1977 during an expedition that achieved the initial ascent of Great Trango Tower. This survey established the baseline for modern knowledge of this mountainous terrain.
Local Balti communities maintain traditional knowledge of safe passage through the glacier, passing expertise from generation to generation.
The best time to visit is between May and September when conditions allow access to the glacier. You will need permits from Pakistani authorities and specialized mountaineering equipment to safely traverse this high-altitude ice.
The glacier serves as the approach route to one of the world's tallest vertical rock walls at Great Trango Tower. This dramatic cliff rises directly from the ice and attracts climbers from around the globe.
