Museum Complex of the Natural Sciences, Natural sciences museum complex in Constanța, Romania
The Museum Complex of the Natural Sciences comprises several sections including an aquarium with marine species, a dolphinarium with Black Sea animals, a planetarium for astronomy shows, an astronomical observatory, and a micro-delta nature area. Each section displays different natural phenomena and marine life from the region.
The institution began in 1958 with the opening of an aquarium, followed by a planetarium in 1969 and an astronomical observatory in 1971. A dolphinarium was added in 1972, expanding offerings to include marine mammal displays.
The complex displays specimens of Black Sea marine life such as crustaceans and mollusks alongside mineral crystals. Visitors also encounter traditional local architecture like a historic Dobrudscha windmill and displays about space exploration.
The facility is located on a boulevard near the coast and is easy to reach by car or public transport. Plan to spend several hours exploring the different sections, as each area requires varying amounts of time depending on your interests.
The dolphinarium features performances with Black Sea species including harbor porpoises and dolphins in an amphitheater with a dedicated pool. These particular animals are rarely seen in facilities outside this region.
