Mirijevo is a residential neighborhood in eastern Belgrade composed of several distinct areas with varied architecture, ranging from single-family homes to modern apartment buildings. The territory spans across a large area, and this mix of housing styles is visible as you walk through different parts.
The name comes from the Turkish word 'miri', which meant taxed farmland during the Ottoman period when agriculture dominated the area. Later, the settlement transformed into the residential zone that exists today.
The Church of Saint Prophet Elias stands at the heart of the old part of this neighborhood and serves as a gathering place for religious services and local events. On Sundays and holidays, residents meet here to worship and celebrate together.
Mirijevo Boulevard provides good transportation links to central Belgrade and makes it easier to reach bus stops and public transport connections. The neighborhood is fairly easy to explore during the day by walking through its different sections and streets.
In the 1970s, significant terrain stabilization projects were carried out to address landslide issues and make the ground safe for building. These works were essential in transforming unstable slopes into a secure residential area.
