Врачевски манастир, Orthodox monastery in Vracevu, Serbia
Vracevsker Monastery is an Orthodox monastery located on the northeastern slopes of Rogozna mountain. The complex features a single-nave church with a dome and semicircular apse, typical of medieval Orthodox architectural design.
The monastery was established in 1316 and destroyed after the Battle of Kosovo, then reconstructed in the 16th century. Major renovations took place in 1860, restoring the structures to their present form.
The monastery is dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian, two ancient physicians revered in Orthodox tradition as healers. Believers visit to express their devotion and connect with this healing tradition that continues to give the place spiritual meaning.
The site sits in the mountains and is accessible from nearby towns, though a mountain drive is needed to reach it. The monastery maintains a library where visitors can explore historical documents and religious artifacts.
Local tradition identifies a tomb on the monastery grounds as belonging to Duke Pavle Orlovic, a figure from Serbian medieval history. This connection to a notable historical figure adds another layer of significance to the site.
