This steel and concrete structure on the former airport site features a central assembly area with two side annexes, built according to engineering standards of the 1920s. The layout reflects functional principles of early aviation maintenance and typical construction methods of that era.
Built in 1929 as part of Belgrade's first airport complex, this structure served aviation purposes for decades. Wartime damage during the Second World War partially destroyed it, but portions survived and were later preserved.
The hangar was designed by Milutin Milankovic, an engineer whose name is primarily associated with climate science today. The building shows how technical expertise from the interwar period extended into aviation architecture and industrial design.
The structure is located in the New Belgrade area near the former airport grounds. Visitors can observe the exterior, though interior exploration may require special care due to the building's age and condition.
This is the only surviving building from Belgrade's original airport, making it a rare remnant of early aviation history in Serbia. Its survival through wartime destruction connects visitors directly to that period of infrastructure development.
