Achinsk

Achinsk is an industrial city in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, situated on the banks of the Chulym River. The streets run from residential blocks near the waterfront to factory districts where smokestacks and warehouses shape the skyline.

The fort was established in 1683 to protect river traffic and secure trade routes through Siberia. The settlement grew into an industrial center during the 20th century through the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway and the discovery of coal deposits.

The name comes from the indigenous word "aches," meaning "river," reflecting the settlement's long connection to the Chulym. Today locals use the waterfront promenades for walking and meet in the parks along the river bend.

The streets are often snowy in winter, so warm clothing and sturdy footwear are necessary. Buses and trams run regularly through residential neighborhoods and connect the main areas of the city.

The railway station sits on the Trans-Siberian line and links the city to distant regions, making it a stop for travelers passing through. Some trains pause here in the middle of the night, so passengers step onto the platform for a brief break.
