Foros

Foros is a resort settlement on Crimea's southern coast, stretching along the Black Sea shore. The community sits at elevated terrain and marks the southernmost point of the peninsula's resort destinations.

Greek merchants founded the settlement and named it after a word meaning boat tax. In the late 1800s, Russian tea merchant Alexander Kuznetsov developed it into a modern resort destination.

The Resurrection Church overlooks the settlement from a clifftop, featuring traditional Orthodox design with five domes. It serves as a visible landmark that shapes how visitors experience the coastal landscape.

The settlement has a medical facility offering specialized health treatments since the early 1900s. Visitors can find various amenities focused on wellness and therapeutic stays.

A government dacha in the area was the site of significant events in 1991 involving Soviet leadership. The location remains connected to pivotal moments surrounding the Soviet collapse.
