Foros

The settlement stretches along the Black Sea coast at an elevation of 50 meters, marking the southernmost point of Crimea's resort locations.

Greek merchants established the settlement, naming it 'phoros' meaning boat tax, before Russian tea merchant Alexander Kuznetsov developed it in the late 1800s.

The Resurrection Church, commissioned by Kuznetsov in 1892, stands on a cliff above Foros and represents traditional Orthodox architectural elements with five domes.

The settlement contains a medical facility specializing in cardiovascular, respiratory, and nervous system treatments, operating since 1922 as a sanatorium.

During the 1991 Soviet coup attempt, Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev was detained at his government dacha located within the Foros territory.
