Moscow Monorail, Elevated transit line in North-Eastern Administrative Okrug, Russia
The Moscow Monorail connects six stations along an elevated route in the northern part of the city. The trains run on concrete pillars above the streets and offer open views of the surrounding residential areas and green spaces.
The system was built in the early 2000s and began regular operations in late 2004. The line emerged as part of a plan to better connect the northern districts to the existing metro network.
The monorail system represents Moscow's determination to expand transportation options, connecting exhibition centers and business districts across the northern sector.
Travelers can transfer between the monorail and the metro using the same ticket as long as they stay within the time limit for connections. The trains run daily and the elevated platforms are accessible by stairs or lifts.
The trains consist of several short cars that glide on a narrow rail above the streets. From the windows you can see residential towers, parking lots and occasionally the exhibition halls near the terminal station.
