Basegi Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Perm Krai, Russia
Basegi Nature Reserve is a protected forest area in the Urals featuring three prominent mountains surrounded by dense spruce and fir woodlands. The reserve spans a large territory and contains various forest and mountain ecosystems.
The reserve was established in 1982 to protect the remaining untouched taiga ecosystems of the Middle Urals. Its creation marked an important step in preserving these northern forest regions from alteration.
The name Basegi comes from a local language and refers to the distinctive mountain peaks of the region. Visitors see the forest landscape that has shaped life here for generations.
Visitors need permits and must join guided groups of four to eight people to explore the trails and mountain summits. Advance registration is important since access is carefully managed.
The reserve is home to 527 plant species, including 17 varieties found nowhere else on Earth. These plants are adapted to the specific mountain conditions of the location.
