Donskoy Starocherkassk Monastery, Orthodox monastery in Starocherkasskaya, Russia.
Donskoy Starocherkassk Monastery is an Orthodox religious complex situated along the Don River in Rostov Oblast. The main church building was constructed between 1756 and 1761 and features traditional Orthodox architectural design set against the riverside landscape.
The site originally held the Efremov Convent, which operated from 1837 until Soviet authorities closed it in 1927. The monastery was reopened in 1994 after decades of abandonment and restored to serve as an active religious center.
The monastery holds deep ties to the Cossack community, as reflected in the icons and rituals that remain central to daily life here. The place serves as a gathering point where people continue traditions that have long defined their region.
The grounds are open to visitors daily, with religious services following the Orthodox calendar and key celebrations marked throughout the year. Visiting on weekdays provides a calmer experience when the site is less crowded.
Following its 1994 reopening, the monastery underwent major restoration work including the installation of new bells and rebuilding of the Don Church. These efforts transformed the site from a decaying structure into an active place of worship.
