Église Saint-Georges, Orthodox temple in Taganrog, Russia
Saint George Church is an Orthodox temple with five bells housed in a stone building located on Mashinny Lane in Taganrog. The structure measures approximately 21 by 11 meters (69 by 36 feet) and functions as an active place of worship for the city.
The church was established in 1943 in a former shop building on Staro-Pochtovaya Street and relocated to a stone warehouse structure in 1945. This relocation reflected the growing need for a proper religious space in the community.
The church serves the community as a place for regular Orthodox worship, where worshippers gather for religious observances and shared spiritual traditions. This sacred space brings together people from the city and surrounding areas through their faith.
The building undergoes ongoing reconstruction while remaining open for visitors during worship services. It is helpful to check the service schedule in advance, as the space is being developed for expanded community religious education.
In 2013, Metropolitan Merkury of Rostov and Novocherkassk led a ceremonial Divine Liturgy marking a significant milestone for the church. This high-ranking visit demonstrated the spiritual importance the broader Orthodox community placed on this local place of worship.
