King Abdullah Economic City, Special economic zone on Red Sea coast, Saudi Arabia
King Abdullah Economic City is a special economic zone on the Red Sea coast in Mecca Province, western Saudi Arabia, bringing together residential neighborhoods, industrial areas, and business districts across a single planned site. Wide roads connect the different sections, and the port lies directly on the waterfront to the west.
Planning began in the mid-2000s as part of a nationwide program to create new economic zones beyond the major centers. Initial residential and port sections were completed in the following years and gradually opened for use.
The city integrates Saudi traditions with modern urban design through dedicated spaces for community gatherings, educational facilities, and social interaction centers.
Access is by the coastal road that links the area with nearby cities to the north and south. Visitors exploring the area should use private transport, as distances between sections are considerable.
A golf course overlooking the sea draws visitors from across the Gulf region and hosts international tournaments. The facility sits at the northern end of the economic zone and borders the residential neighborhoods.
