Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh, Diplomatic district in Irqah, Saudi Arabia
The Diplomatic Quarter is a large residential district in northwest Riyadh with wide streets, planted green spaces, and modern architecture throughout its layout. The area brings together embassy buildings, residential complexes, and cultural facilities arranged according to a thoughtful master plan.
The quarter was founded starting in 1975 to house foreign embassies that were previously based in Jeddah and needed to relocate to Riyadh. Its development marked an important step in Saudi Arabia's modernization and international opening.
The Cultural Palace hosts performances, exhibitions, and international events that draw visitors from across the city. These gatherings reflect the cosmopolitan character of the neighborhood and bring together people from different backgrounds.
Access is through monitored checkpoints and may require permission as it is a controlled area. The district connects easily from the eastern Salboukh Street and the southern Makkah Street.
The area stands out for its extensive green planting, with thousands of date palms lining its streets and giving it a different appearance from the rest of Riyadh. This green design makes it a noticeably cooler place, especially in hot weather.
