Mosque of the Jinn

The Mosque of the Jinn sits in the Ghazzah district near Al-Mualla Cemetery, displaying a white dome above the main prayer hall and a slender minaret. The building combines traditional architecture with modern facilities for worshippers and features separate areas for men and women.

The prayer house was established in the early 9th century and marks the location where Prophet Muhammad is believed to have shared Islamic teachings with a group of jinn. Archaeological discoveries several meters below ground led to a complete renewal of the structure in recent times.

The name refers to an encounter between the Prophet and beings from Islamic tradition who embraced faith at this spot. Pilgrims from around the world visit today to pray here and connect with this spiritual moment.

The building sits roughly 2.4 kilometers from the Great Mosque and offers space for several hundred worshippers at once. Visitors will find facilities for ritual washing and can view the interior outside prayer times.

Excavations revealed the original prayer niche three meters below the current surface, shedding light on ground levels from past centuries. This discovery made it necessary to rebuild the entire complex to preserve the historical layer.
