Red Sea Project, Tourist destination on the Red Sea coast in Tabuk Province, Saudi Arabia
The Red Sea Project is a new tourist destination on the western coast of Saudi Arabia in Tabuk Province, encompassing several islands, beaches, and desert areas. The development stretches along the coast and connects marine environments with mountainous and volcanic landscapes inland.
Saudi Arabia began developing the area in 2017 to encourage new tourist activity along the Red Sea coast. Work proceeded in multiple stages, with accommodation and an airport built first.
The settlement takes its name from the sea that forms its western edge, a body of water that has shaped trade routes and fishing communities for centuries. Visitors today see a mix of newly developed beach stretches and coastal villages where local residents continue their daily routines.
The area includes hotel accommodation reached via an international airport offering direct connections from several continents. Visitors find beach facilities and amenities for water sports along the shoreline.
The entire development is powered by a large battery storage system that uses renewable energy from solar and wind sources. This technical solution enables self-sufficient operation without reliance on external power grids.
