Shambat Bridge, Road bridge in Khartoum North, Sudan
Shambat Bridge was a concrete arch structure spanning the Nile River between Khartoum North and Omdurman. The bridge featured prestressed concrete construction and served as a major vehicular crossing for the capital region.
Italian contractor Recchi built the bridge between 1963 and 1966, representing the first prestressed concrete bridge constructed abroad by an Italian company. The infrastructure remained central to the capital's transportation network for decades afterward.
The bridge served as a central meeting point for local residents, facilitating daily interactions between communities on both sides of the Nile River.
The bridge was freely accessible to pedestrians and vehicles moving between both sides of the river. Its location along the Nile made it a heavily traveled route for daily commuting and commerce.
The bridge stood at the geographical coordinates of 15.644253 latitude and 32.506061 longitude, near the confluence of the Blue and White Nile rivers.
