Khalifa House Museum, Historical museum in Omdurman, Sudan.
Khalifa House Museum is a two-level building in Omdurman connected by courtyards and interior passages. The rooms display military weapons, historical documents, and artifacts from the period between 1885 and 1898.
The building was constructed in 1888 as the residence of Khalifa Abdallahi ibn Muhammad, an important leader of his time. It was converted into a museum in 1928 after political conditions changed.
The museum displays items from the Mahdist state period, including coins, weapons, and personal possessions of leaders. These objects tell the story of a specific era in Sudanese history and how people lived during that time.
Visitors can join guided tours available in multiple languages to better understand the exhibits on display. Photography is permitted under certain conditions, allowing you to document the historical items you see.
The museum preserves the first automobile in Sudan, an Arrol-Johnston motor tractor, which represents an early phase of the country's motorization. A preserved cupola from the original Mahdi's tomb is also displayed here.
