3Arena, Multi-purpose stadium in Johanneshov, Sweden
The 3Arena is a large football and event stadium in Johanneshov south of central Stockholm, with seating for around thirty thousand spectators at matches and over forty thousand at concerts. The entire roof opens and closes, while the transparent outer walls let daylight into the interior during the day.
The arena opened in summer 2013 after nearly three years of construction and was inaugurated with a local football match. The site in Johanneshov was already known for other large sports facilities nearby and quickly became one of Sweden's most important event venues.
The stadium hosts home matches for both Djurgårdens IF and Hammarby IF football clubs, along with international concerts from major performing artists throughout the year.
The arena sits right next to Globen Metro Station and can be reached from many parts of Stockholm in less than half an hour. Several entrances are spread around the building, making it easier to enter and exit for large crowds before and after events.
The metal basket-weave structure on the facade grows wider toward the top, giving the building a recognizable appearance from a distance. This design feature made the most of the limited ground space while creating more usable area in the upper sections.
