The Massalikoul Djinane Mosque features five 80-meter minarets and four wooden domes reaching 28 meters in height across its 10,000-square-meter grounds.
President Abdoulaye Wade donated the land in the early 2000s, leading to a 15-year construction period that concluded with the mosque's opening in September 2019.
The mosque, whose name means 'paths to paradise' in Arabic, represents the Mouride brotherhood and honors Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba through its architectural elements.
The mosque welcomes 30,000 worshipers, accommodating 10,000 inside the main prayer hall and 20,000 in the surrounding square during religious gatherings.
The interior walls display Carrara marble and Baccarat crystal chandeliers, making it the largest mosque in West Africa with construction costs reaching 20 billion XOF.
