Stratonicea, Archaeological site in Muğla Province, Turkey
The ancient city extends across a large area featuring multiple structures including temples, a theater, and remnants of fortress walls from different periods.
Founded around 270 BCE by Antiochus I Soter, the city gained independence under Roman rule and maintained strong diplomatic connections with the empire.
The city contained two major sanctuaries dedicated to Zeus at Panamara and Hecate at Lagina, establishing its position as a regional religious center.
Visitors can explore the archaeological remains through paved pathways dating from the Ottoman period, with facilities including restrooms and parking areas.
The excavated structures reveal continuous habitation patterns from ancient Greek through Ottoman periods, with buildings from multiple eras preserved within the site.
