Altınkaya Dam, Embankment dam in Samsun Province, Turkey
The Altınkaya Dam spans 634 meters across the Kızılırmak River, reaching a height of 195 meters with four large hydroelectric turbines.
Construction of this major infrastructure project took place from 1980 to 1988, marking a significant development in Turkey's renewable energy capabilities.
The dam's reservoir transformed the regional landscape, creating new water bodies near traditional villages like Özyörük, where local springs hold historical importance.
With an installed capacity of 700 MW, the facility generates 1,630 GWh annually, supplying electricity to over 290,000 households in the region.
The Şahinkaya Canyon forms the narrowest section of the dam's reservoir, featuring vertical cliffs shaped by millions of years of water erosion.
