Kayseri Province, Administrative province in Central Anatolia, Turkey
Kayseri is a province in central Anatolia that spreads across wide plains and mountainous areas. The landscape is shaped by Mount Erciyes, an active volcano that dominates the terrain and around which settlements and villages developed.
The area was known as Masaka in ancient times and later called Caesarea under Roman rule before taking its current Turkish name. These name changes reflect the many cultures that shaped the region over centuries.
The old city of Kayseri displays a mix of Seljuk, Ottoman, and modern buildings arranged along narrow streets. You can see traditional bazaars alongside restored historic houses where craftspeople still work using traditional methods.
The province has an international airport with regular connections and a dense bus network linking towns and villages together. Larger towns have good basic services, while remote areas are easier to reach if you have your own transport.
The archaeological site of Kültepe shows traces of ancient settlements dating back thousands of years and is considered one of the world's oldest inhabited places. Visitors can discover remains that reflect daily life in these early communities.
