Kandilli Observatory, Scientific observatory in Üsküdar district, Turkey.
The Kandilli Observatory stands on a hill overlooking the Bosphorus strait, containing multiple research departments focused on astronomy and seismic studies.
Founded in 1868 as the Imperial Observatory, the institution relocated to its current location in 1910 after destruction during the 31 March Incident.
The observatory contributes to Turkish scientific advancement through educational programs and collaboration with international researchers in seismology and astronomy studies.
The National Earthquake Monitoring Center within the observatory provides continuous tracking of seismic activity across Turkey and issues public safety alerts.
The facility maintains specialized centers outside Istanbul, including the Belbaşı Nuclear Tests Monitoring Center and İznik Center for Reducing Earthquake Damages.
