Sırçalı Madrasah

The Sırçalı Madrasah is a religious school building in Konya that now operates as a museum, with teaching chambers arranged around a central courtyard. The structure displays elaborate terracotta tilework and stone carvings visible on its outer walls and interior surfaces.

The building was constructed in 1242 under Seljuk sultan Kaykaus II and served as a center for teaching Islamic sciences. It later underwent transformation and acquired its present role as a memorial to the region's educational heritage.

The courtyard functions as a space where geometric patterns on walls and floors reflect traditional Islamic artistic principles that visitors can observe firsthand. These visual elements demonstrate how beauty and faith were intertwined in Seljuk design.

Visitors can explore the building on most days, with parking and bus stops within walking distance of the site. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes, as exploring the courtyard and various rooms requires walking across the grounds.

The building takes its name from the use of glazed bricks in its decoration, which was an unusual technique for the period. This ornamental method made the facade particularly bright and reflective when light struck its surfaces.
