Pınargözü Cave, Natural cave in Yenişarbademli, Turkey
Pınargözü Cave is a natural underground formation located near Yenişarbademli in the Taurus Mountains. Situated at 1,550 meters on Mount Dedegöl, it contains multiple subterranean waterfalls, spacious chambers, and a continuous water stream called Devre Su that runs throughout the cave system.
The cave was discovered in 1964 by Temuçin Aygen and underwent its first major exploration by French and Turkish speleologists in August 1965. These early expeditions established the foundation for understanding the cave system and its geological importance.
The cave represents a significant part of Turkey's geological heritage, extending through the limestone formations of the Taurus Mountains region.
The cave maintains a constant temperature of 5°C year-round, with water around 4-5°C, so warm and waterproof gear is essential for visitors. Exploration requires speleological knowledge and professional equipment due to the subterranean waterfalls and water currents.
Strong winds at the cave entrance reach speeds of 160 kilometers per hour, created by temperature differences between openings at different altitudes. This powerful air circulation is one of the site's most distinctive features and constantly shapes the underground environment.
