Gölyazı, Historical peninsula on Lake Uluabat in Nilüfer, Turkey
Gölyazı is a lakeside village on a peninsula in Lake Uluabat near Bursa, formed by two hills connected to the mainland. The settlement consists of stone houses arranged along narrow streets that follow the shoreline and are surrounded by water.
The settlement was founded around 450 BCE by Greek colonists as Apollonia ad Rhyndacum and later became an important Roman and Byzantine center. Successive changes in rule shaped its structure and population composition over the centuries.
The village maintains fishing traditions with women playing a significant role in the local fishing community on the lake. Daily work on the water shapes the character of the settlement and is visible in residents' daily routines.
A former church has been restored and now serves as a cultural center with rotating exhibitions and local events. The village is best explored on foot, as the narrow streets do not accommodate vehicles.
Rock-cut tombs from ancient times are found on Zambak Hill, revealing remains from multiple historical periods. This necropolis offers insight into the various cultures that once inhabited the area.
