Taş Kule

Taş Kule is an ancient tomb and archaeological site near Foça in Izmir Province. The Stone Tower features two levels with a sarcophagus positioned at the top and carefully worked stone surfaces throughout.

The tomb was built in the 4th century BC during Achaemenid Persian rule and reflects burial practices of that era. The stone structure has endured for centuries, showing how people under Persian control honored their dead.

The structure shows a blend of Persian architectural styles and local building techniques from ancient Asia Minor. Visitors can see this cultural mix reflected in the carved details and overall design of the monument.

The site lies about 7 kilometers east of Eski Foça and is accessible via modern and ancient roads. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow time to examine the stone work and details at a leisurely pace.

The tomb walls contain carved false doors that ancient peoples believed served as spiritual passages for the deceased into the afterlife. This element was a key part of burial traditions and remains visible to visitors today.
