Human Rights Monument

Human Rights Monument, Human rights memorial in Donanmacı Mahallesi, Turkey

The Human Rights Monument features a bronze sculpture of a woman holding and reading the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The work stands as a public statement at a street intersection where many people pass by daily.

The monument was created in 1990 by artist Metin Yurdanur during a period when Turkey was increasing its public focus on human rights. A restoration took place in 2010 to preserve the bronze sculpture for the future.

The monument serves as a gathering place where visitors encounter conversations about human rights and social justice in daily public life. Its location in the neighborhood makes questions of dignity and legal protection visible to everyone passing through.

The monument stands at the corner of Konur Street and Yüksel Street in the neighborhood and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors may notice the area becomes busier at certain times of the day.

The bronze sculpture is designed so that the document in the woman's hands can be read by visitors standing at different angles. This combination of artwork and readable text makes each visit a personal discovery rather than just a distant viewing.
