St. John the Evangelist's Anglican Church

St. John the Evangelist is a Gothic Revival church in Alsancak featuring flying buttresses and decorative stonework typical of its style. The building displays a prominent spire and rose window alongside three stained-glass windows on its west facade.

Construction of the church took place between 1898 and 1899, with consecration following in 1902. It was established during a period when İzmir was a major center for international trade and diplomatic presence.

The congregation follows Anglican traditions with rituals like holy water and incense that visitors can observe during services. These practices shape how the community gathers and worships together.

Visitors can enter on Tuesday through Saturday afternoons and during Sunday worship services. The building also contains a memorial hall that can be explored during visiting hours.

Inside the church lies Bishop William Collins, who died in 1911 while traveling to the city. His burial here connects the building to broader stories of international religious presence in the region.
