Durmuş Yaşar Mansion

Durmuş Yaşar Mansion is an Art Nouveau residential building in Karşıyaka composed of two connected wings: a two-story front section and a three-story rear block. The rear portion features a terrace and floral ornaments on its facade that give the structure its distinctive appearance.

A European baron designed and built the house in 1914 as a private residence in the developing neighborhood. In 1938 a local businessman purchased it, giving it its present name and keeping it within his family.

The mansion is named after the businessman who acquired it in 1938, and it stands as a notable example of residential design from that era in the region. The architectural style shows how European influences merged with local building traditions in early modern Turkey.

The building underwent thorough restoration between 2018 and 2019 and shines with renewed splendor. Visitors should note that it now operates under a private foundation and may not be open to the public at all times.

The mansion captivates with its asymmetrical design, a hallmark of the Turkish interpretation of Art Nouveau that differs from European precedents. This unconventional balance between its two wings demonstrates how local builders reinterpreted the international style on their own terms.
