National Chung Cheng University, Public university in Minxiong Township, Taiwan
National Chung Cheng University is a public higher education institution in Minxiong Township, Chiayi County, in southern Taiwan. The campus spreads over large green areas and contains lecture halls, research laboratories, dormitories, and sports facilities among wooded hills.
The government founded the university in 1989 in response to growing demand for academic institutions outside major cities. Over the following decades, the administration expanded the faculties and added new programs in engineering, humanities, and social sciences.
The institution takes its name from the former Chinese statesman Chiang Kai-shek, whose courtesy name was Chung Cheng. Students from many countries meet in the libraries and common areas, where they study together and discuss their academic projects.
The campus is located on University Road in Minxiong Township and can be reached from Chiayi by public bus or taxi. Visitors will find signs directing them to different buildings and can consult the main administration for information.
The library holds a collection of rare historical documents about the history of Taiwan and East Asia that are accessible for research purposes. In October 2024, the Taiwan Ten-Drum Art Percussion Group performed an open-air concert on campus as part of the 35th anniversary celebration.
