Control Yuan, Government oversight agency in Zhongzheng District, Taipei, Taiwan.
The Control Yuan is a government oversight body in Zhongzheng District, Taipei, Taiwan, designated as a national monument. The institution employs 29 members who investigate state activities and conduct audits of public institutions throughout the country.
The agency was founded in 1931 and evolved from the Auditing Yuan into an independent supervisory institution. It later received national monument status and now also houses the National Human Rights Commission.
The name comes from traditional Chinese control councils that once supervised imperial officials. The building combines classical architectural forms with modern administrative structures and remains present as a place of accountability for citizens and officials alike.
Tours of the building can be arranged in advance and offer insight into the daily work of the institution. The visit requires registration and takes place in small groups that are guided through selected rooms.
Seven of the commission members are external human rights specialists who do not undertake regular audit duties. They work independently from the other members and focus exclusively on human rights issues within the administration.
