Shin Kong Life Tower, Office skyscraper in Zhongzheng District, Taipei, Taiwan
Shin Kong Life Tower is a 51-story office building in central Taipei wrapped in a distinctive rose-colored aluminum exterior. The structure reaches 244.8 m into the sky and creates a striking vertical line in the city's skyline.
The tower was completed in 1993 and replaced the former Taiwan Railway Hotel, which had been destroyed during World War II. This rebuilding marked an important moment in how central Taipei transformed itself after wartime damage.
The Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store fills the lower floors and draws shoppers from across the city to browse and spend time there. This mix of retail and office space reflects how modern buildings in Taipei serve multiple purposes for people's daily routines.
The building sits directly across from Taipei Main Station, making it easy to reach by metro and railway connections. Shopping areas and shops surround the tower, so you have plenty of places to visit nearby.
The 46th floor housed an observation deck from 1994 to 2006 that allowed millions of visitors to see the city from above. This popular spot was for a long time a place where people came to experience Taipei from a new viewpoint.
