Former Mitsui & Co. Taipei warehouse, Cultural heritage monument near North Gate, Taipei, Taiwan.
The former Mitsui & Co. warehouse is a two-story red brick building near North Gate featuring Japanese colonial architecture with traditional gable details. It now serves as an information hub that connects visitors with other cultural landmarks in the area.
The warehouse was built between 1913 and 1914 to store goods for the Guangtong Transportation Company through a partnership with the Mitsui Group until 1935. After this period, its role in commercial operations changed.
The structure stands as a reminder of how foreign trade companies shaped Taipei's growth during the Japanese colonial era. Visitors can observe how the architecture and displayed objects tell the story of this commercial past.
The building is within walking distance of Taipei Main Station and part of a route through several cultural sites in this district. Plan time to explore both the exhibition and the neighboring landmarks.
In 2016, engineers relocated the entire structure 51 meters eastward using specialized preservation techniques. This remarkable intervention was necessary to protect the original building while allowing the city to develop around this landmark.
