Jiji Township, Railway township in Nantou County, Taiwan
Jiji Township is an administrative township in Nantou County in central Taiwan with mountains and the Zhuoshui River shaping its landscape. The eleven villages spread across this area form the structure of this rural region.
Han Chinese settlers from Zhangzhou arrived in 1771 and named the place based on local language roots. The area later became an important trade point for camphor products.
The place is shaped by farming traditions, particularly banana growing, which you see reflected in the daily life and work of people here. The eleven villages within the township maintain this connection to the land through their routines and how they use the surrounding landscape.
The township is accessible by a dedicated railway line, with stations at Jiji and Longquan offering regular connections to larger cities. Visitors should plan their trip according to weather and season to comfortably explore the mountains and farming areas.
Beyond its farming role, the area has a water museum that shows the importance of the Zhuoshui River to the region. This museum tells the story of how water has shaped life and work in the valley, which often surprises visitors.
