Sichongxi Hot Spring, Hot spring in Wenquan Village, Taiwan
Sichongxi is a hot spring in Wenquan Village where water emerges from the ground between 50 to 60 degrees Celsius and contains sodium bicarbonate. The water has a slightly alkaline pH that makes it mild and gentle on the skin.
The spring was originally known as Chu Tang and became recognized during Japanese colonial times as one of Taiwan's four major thermal destinations. The site later gained royal attention when a prince visited during his honeymoon.
The name comes from how the steam rises from the ground, and the bathhouses follow a traditional design that visitors can still see and experience today.
The water welcomes bathing and soaking, and most visitors come during the day when light shows the surroundings well. It is best to bring a bathing suit and towel, as the facilities are set up for longer stays.
Unlike sulfur springs found elsewhere in Taiwan, the water here is valued by visitors for its gentle effects on digestion and joints. This quality draws people looking for therapeutic benefits beyond typical thermal bathing.
