National Central University, Public research university in Taoyuan District, Taiwan
National Central University is a public research institution in Taoyuan with several faculty buildings, laboratories and a library across an expansive campus. The grounds spread over green areas with paved pathways between academic facilities and dormitories.
The institution originated in Nanjing in 1915 and moved to Chongqing during the Second World War. After relocating to Taiwan, the present site was established in 1962.
The campus includes a Hakka Cultural Museum that showcases the traditions of this ethnic minority in Taiwan and regularly opens exhibits to visitors. Students and guests can explore traditional architecture, language and crafts of the Hakka people here.
The main entrance sits roughly ten kilometers west of downtown Taoyuan and can be reached by public bus or taxi. The library and some outdoor areas are open to visitors, while other zones remain reserved for students.
The institute produces the Taiwan Consumer Confidence Index, a monthly survey of consumer sentiment that serves as an economic indicator nationwide. This work began in the 1980s and made the institution the first educational site in Taiwan with its own industrial economics research center.
