Taoyuan City Constituency 1, Legislative district in Taoyuan, Taiwan
Taoyuan City Constituency 1 is a legislative district in Taoyuan, Taiwan, covering eleven villages across the three districts of Luzhu, Guishan, and Taoyuan. The area shifts between dense city neighborhoods and open farming land, reflecting the broader mix of urban and rural life in the region.
This district was established in 2008 as part of Taiwan's electoral reform that introduced single-member constituencies for the Legislative Yuan. Before that change, the region was part of a broader multi-member system where voters chose several lawmakers at once.
The constituency includes both dense urban neighborhoods and quieter farming areas, showing how Taoyuan has grown from a rural region into a modern city while keeping some older farming traditions alive.
The three districts are reachable by local bus and regional train, which makes it straightforward to move between the urban and rural parts of the area. Visitors heading toward the parts near the airport should allow extra time, as traffic in that zone tends to be heavy.
The Luzhu district borders the Taoyuan international airport directly, meaning planes on approach fly just above the fields and houses of the area. This close overlap between one of Asia's busiest airports and a farming community is something few other constituencies in Taiwan can claim.
